The ultimate geek blog entry!

I've noticed for a number of days that pages served from blogspot.com tend to get garbled in Gecko, but never had the time or inclination to hunt it down. Well, today I finally did, and what a can of ugly worms it turned out to be. The upshot is that the blogger people are working on it. And when the Blogger Engineering manager is a Apache httpd developer, that makes it quite likely that this will get sorted out one way or the other :)

A temp fix would be to make your blog not use utf-8 as your charset if you are only going to stick to iso-8859-1 characters. (But no one reads this blog .... so who am I preaching to :) )

Sonia can call for Govt files

Union Law Minister H R Bharadwaj today said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi can call for any Government file because, as UPA chairperson, she has been accorded Cabinet rank status.

How does this work from a constitutional standpoint? Is this legal? She hasn't taken the oath of secrecy that any cabinet minister has to take ... has she?

I've been subscribed to the Education In India weblog for some days. Great stuff. There is a really interesting post today comparing the progress of higher education in China with that in India.

Paul Graham : Hackers and Painters

Interesting read. Says a lot of things that resonate with me.

All the time I was in graduate school I had an uncomfortable feeling in the back of my mind that I ought to know more theory, and that it was very remiss of me to have forgotten all that stuff within three weeks of the final exam.

Great software, likewise, requires a fanatical devotion to beauty. If you look inside good software, you find that parts no one is ever supposed to see are beautiful too. I'm not claiming I write great software, but I know that when it comes to code I behave in a way that would make me eligible for prescription drugs if I approached everyday life the same way. It drives me crazy to see code that's badly indented, or that uses ugly variable names.
