On Saturday, I happened to catch a part of Dynasty (BBC's documentary on the Nehru-Gandhi family). The parts I watched covered Indira Gandhi and the years of her Prime-Ministership. The BBC has great archives to mine material from. They liberally threw in excerpts of interviews dating back to the 60's and 70's, and particularly from news reports covering the 1971 war. It was wonderful to see her personally make the case for her war. I had no idea (or have I forgotten?) how confident and articulate she really was. Fascinating stuff. Made me realize (once again) how little we are exposed to "recent history" in India.
Other weekend viewing included Amélie. I had heard a lot about it (it was one of the nominees for the foreign film Oscar in the same year the Lagaan was). But it kinda disappointed.
